Rev John Johnston remembered
Family, friends and associates were welcomed by the Rev Sandy Strachan to a special service at the Crichton Memorial Church on Sunday May 11. A moving and sincere tribute to John the man, husband, father, friend and pastor was given by Rev Liz Mack. The dedication and prayer was given by Rev Gordon Savage and after the service refreshments, organised by David Matheson, were served, giving us a chance to speak to John's family.
John served as Dumfries healthcare chaplain between 1987 and 1999, and we at St Mary's-Greyfriars were privileged to have had John as Interim Moderator guiding us during a difficult time and it was one of his hopes and ambitions for our two churches to unite and go forward. I think he would be well pleased with the result.
