St Mary's-Greyfriars'

Daily Bible verse

1"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:1-5 (NIV)

Link church: Caerlaverock

The church in the heart of our community with the community in our heart.

Caerlaverock Parish extends over the villages, farms, cottages and countryside that lie south of Dumfries with the River Nith to our west, the Lochar Water to the east and the Solway Firth to the south.

Caerlaverock Parish is home to approximately 660 residents who mostly live in the villages of Glencaple, Bankend, Sherington and Kelton. The parish is also the home to 16,500 Barnacle Geese and many other varieties of bird that live on the Wetlands managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.

Our three geese logo is inspired by the geese that winter with us every year. For further information on the logo please click here.

The Parish Church is beautiful inside and out and set in an old Kirk yard by a wood about half a mile north of Bankend. We have a church service every Sunday morning at 9.45am, except on a five week month when the last Sunday of the month's service is at 2.45pm. We are involved in heart of the parish and seek to serve God locally and beyond our parish boundaries.

At the southern tip of the parish is Caerlaverock Castle which is owned and managed by Historic Scotland. The castle is medieval, has three sides, is surrounded by a moat and is open for visitors, it also includes a siege warfare exhibition, a children's adventure park and a nature trail.

Caerlaverock Parish Church, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and Caerlaverock Castle and are all well worth a visit. We look forward to welcoming you to our parish.
