The Guild

Professor Archibald Hamilton Charteris DD LL D was at the very heart of The Church of Scotland's Guild Foundation. He was born the son of a schoolmaster at Wamphray. It is in Wamphray Church Kirkyard that he is buried with his wife Catherine. He served as a Minister in the parishes of St Quivox, New Abbey and The Park, Glasgow, as well as a being a Professor of Biblical Criticism at Edinburgh University.

The Reverend Alexander Chapman MA was responsible for the formation of St Mary's Women's Guild in 1886, now known as The Guild of St Mary's-Greyfriars' Church. It is open to men and women who want to join in the fellowship of sharing God's word within a warm and friendly group. The Guild currently has a membership of 51.

The Guild committee has prepared a full and varied programme for the membership and visitors to enjoy during the coming winter session. A warm welcome awaits anyone who wishes to come along to any of our meetings. Enquiries are welcome from anyone wishing to know more about the Guild.

The Guild Theme is "Called to Walk Humbly with God" and we are currently at year three in the 2009-2012 strategy - "What does the Lord require of you?".

Our Guild celebrated 125 years in November making us one of the oldest.

Daily Bible verse

19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
20 Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
