Prayer for Remembrance Day

Remembrance Sunday is held on the Sunday closest to November 11th. It is the day when we remember the men and women who lost their lives during two World Wars, and other conflicts over the years to the present day.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”. (King James Version)

Lord God, our Heavenly Father, at this special time of remembrance we think about those of the past who gave their lives serving our Country in two World Wars. We also remember those who have lost their lives in other war torn areas of the World over the years.

We pray for those who have been maimed during wars, and now have to adjust to new and sometimes difficult ways of life. We ask that You will be near them in times of difficulty and pain.

At this time we pray for the families of Service men and women who cope at home while their loved ones are involved in war in other parts of the World.

We pray that people will show love and respect for one another and learn to live in peace.

We pray too that Your Kingdom may come here on earth, and through the Power of Your Holy Spirit our prayers will be granted in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.

Amen.

Prayers

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and He will show you the right way.” (Proverbs 3, Verses 5 and 6). GNB

Loving Lord, we worship and adore You
Hallowed be Your Name
Thank You for the wonderful world of creation all around us -
the beauty of the countryside, the sea and sky.
Thank You for always being there for us in times of trouble -
wrapping Your loving arms around us – giving us peace.
Strengthen us, Lord, through Your power.
Help us to be dedicated in our Worship and Adoration of You.
You are our God, and we are Your loving people.
Help us to worship and adore You. Amen.

“If one of you wants to be great, he must be the servant of the rest, and if one of you wants to be first, he must be your slave, like the Son of Man, who did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life to redeem many people.” (Matthew 20, Verses 26 – 28). GNB

Lord, You are a compassionate God, and we confess that in our service of You, we sometimes seek our own way instead of listening to You showing us the way forward in our lives.
Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and show us the way forward in the life and work of Your Church.
Lord we adore You. Amen.

“….. so we are to use our different gifts in accordance with the grace that God has given us.” (Romans 12, Verse 6). GNB

Lord God, our Heavenly Father, thank You for the many gifts You have given to each one of us.
Show us how to use our gifts to Your Glory.
Help us to keep alert to all the opportunities and challenges that You offer us, so that Your work will move forward.
Help us to be aware of signs of Your presence and guidance with us each day, and be encouraged and enthusiastic in the way forward. Thank You, Lord. Amen.

“The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control.” (Galatians 5, Verse 6). GNB

Lord God, our Heavenly Father, as we hear our daily news, from newspapers, radio or television, we are aware of wars, injustice, oppression, and suffering through the World.
We cry out for Peace in our World, Lord, and we ask that You will be there in the midst of all the conflict and poverty.
Show each one of us how we can help – through our prayers, and from our resources.
Lord hear our prayer.
We pray for those who are in difficult circumstances of any kind.
Lord hear our prayer.
We pray for those who suffer because of natural disasters with shortage of food and water and often the destruction of their homes our source of income.
Lord hear our prayer
Help us to pray “Thy Kingdom Come”.
Lord hear our prayer. AMEN

Lydia said, “Come and stay at my house if you have decided that I am a true believer in the Lord. And she persuaded us to go.” (Acts 16, Verse 15). GNB

Thank You, Lord, for the gift of hospitality, so that we may be encouraged to use our home as a place where we welcome those who call.
Help us to remember that Your Holy Spirit is always present with us in all that we say and do.
As we welcome people to our homes and our Church, especially newcomers, let us offer the hand of friendship in Your Name.
Lord, grant us the gift of hospitality. AMEN

A Prayer when we enter Church

Heavenly Father, I am now in Your house,
Help me to remember that I am in Your presence.
Make me reverent and attentive.
Teach me by Your Holy Spirit -
to pray to You
to sing to You
to hear Your Word anew. AMEN.

A Prayer before Communion

Merciful Lord, You call us to Your feast
We come unprepared, aware of our need
to be nourished and filled.
How can we receive the bread You offer
And not burn with longing
To share our bread with the hungry?
For Your body, Lord, was broken for all.
Your bread offered for the poor and the sinner.
So look on our need
as we share in the body and blood of Your Son.
Bring every one of us, sisters and brothers
From the corners of the World
To the feast prepared in Your Kingdom. AMEN

Daily Bible verse

19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
20 Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

Ezekiel 11:19-20 (NIV)
